SPECTATOR ALERT

Don’t be surprised by who is watching what you do (e.g., your children, spouse/other boss,  friends/relatives, team/peers, congregation, security – what) or how – when you slack or quit, they see it!  Keep in mind: you know their schedule! Guess what: They may know your schedule even better (e.g., through technology – security access, cameras, computer keystrokes, internet footprints; through habit, children know when you will be home, what the schedule will when you are there and what they can get away with – Note: “good loving” ain’t easy, sometimes it is “tough love” required).

SPECTATOR ALERT:  Don’t plan to watch the watchers.  Plan to set the standard, give them something worthy of watching (i.e., a job “well done“)!  You don’t need to watch everyone, every minute of everyday.  While you’re with them, lead them by example(s) and plant the seeds of excellence and integrity (e.g., If your boss is a slacker, do your best work anyway; if your child is doing some negative things, it may not be you, but do a self-check anyway (e.g, are you pointing the way and not leading the way; are you bending the rules, while telling them to follow the rule – mix message).  Finally, DON’T RETIRE ON THE JOB!  Study to show yourself approved, for change is constant and education is life long!

p.s., A bad habit is hard to break, but the consistent “practise” is worth the outcome!  I have a long history of real failures and greater victories to thank God for (Examples): from a 1st generation college dropout to a 1st generation college graduate; from a six figure earner to a near zero earner to a ….  I’m still writing that story; I’m dreaming of millions. Don’t watch me!  What’s your vision?

– Notes From The School of Hard Knocks

In honor of my parents (William & Betty Gibson) and mentors (Jimmy Donald, James E. Mumford and the late Michael V.W. Gordon). Thank you for modeling the way, not simply pointing it out!  If you have a role model, practise to be a better one – Show the way to someone who has lost theirs!  Pass it on!
